What happens when you call SAR? Join Extremely Canadian for an engaging morning exploring what happens when a day in the backcountry doesn’t go according to plan. This interactive session guides and the outdoor community together to share real-world experiences, practical knowledge, and the realities of a search and rescue response. Together, we’ll explore common scenarios, what to expect when you need to call SAR, and how you can prepare yourself and your group for a potential rescue. You’ll also get hands-on with the process of preparing someone for extraction and learn how thoughtful preparation can make a difference when things go wrong. This is an interactive afternoon—not a sit-and-listen presentation. Expect group discussions, scenarios, problem-solving, and plenty of opportunities to ask questions, share ideas, and learn from the people who respond when help is needed.
Meet Your Host:
Extremely Canadian
Guiding Company
Extremely Canadian is still all about big-mountain skiing. Specializing in all-mountain guiding and coaching on the twin giants of Whistler and Blackcomb — with 5,000-feet plus of vertical and a combined 8,000 acres of skiable terrain — Extremely Canadian’s Steep Skiing Clinics are all about improving and refining your off-piste technique. They’re also about finding the wickedest terrain and best snow: chutes, bowls, couloirs, trees and steeps will all become second nature to participants.
Meet Your Panelist:
Jeremy Postal
Rock climber, mountaineer, and splitboarder
Jeremy is passionate about exploring our local mountains, the vibrant mountain culture surrounding them, and the people he gets to share these experiences with. Rock climber, mountaineer, and splitboarder, Jeremy has been playing & working in the BC backcountry for 25 years and has as much fun introducing people to the mountains as he does on epic trips with long-time partners. A member of Whistler Search & Rescue, the Canadian Ski Guide Association, and the Canadian Avalanche Association, Jeremy is a skilled teacher and storyteller bringing a lot of passion and experience to every AST course. He’s easily impressed by a well-built alpine sandwich and he counts it a good day when there’s been powder to ride, apres to celebrate, and everyone goes home happy, tired, and with a few good stories of their own.
