Dr. Chris Bertram and co-author Dr. Mark Guadagnoli, will be taking to the stage along with snowboarding legend Mikey Ciccarelli to talk about their forthcoming book - The Intelligent Struggle - and hear stories from Mikey about how the concepts in the book helped him take home the Natural Selection Tour Championship in 2024. We will also have a booth with a limited number of first-run editions of the book on hand.

Dr. Chris Bertram is a Senior Director of Applied Neuroscience at EXOS, a past Professor at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) and a respected figure in sport and performance science. Chris also serves as a mental performance and flow coach for Canada Snowboard and the PGA Tour. His work bridges academic research and applied athletics, helping elite athletes optimize focus, performance, and mental resilience at the highest levels of competition.

Mikey Ciccarelli
Snowboarder, Natural Selection Champion, Slopestyle Gold Medalist
Michael Ciccarelli is a Canadian snowboarder. He hails from Ancaster, Ontario and is a member of the Canadian National Slopestyle/Big Air Team. Coming from a family of skiers, Mikey has been snowboarding since the age of six, when his parents finally relented to his begging and bought him a board.

Mark Guadagnoli

Mark Guadagnoli teaches elite performers how to excel at the edge of challenge. A neuroscientist and human performance specialist with more than thirty-five years of experience, he developed the Challenge Point Framework, a model of optimized learning for high-stakes environments, cited in more than 3,500 scholarly articles. Mark has coached trauma surgeons, PGA Tour winners, NCAA champions, Olympic coaches, and organizations such as Zappos and Grammarly. Mark’s work has been featured in The New York Times, Time, The Wall Street Journal, The London Times, and CBS Sports, and he has lectured at Harvard, MIT, and UCLA.
